Rules - RNRMC Race Across the UK 2026
Here’s a quick summary of the key rules to help you understand how the event works. Don’t worry — full and detailed guidance will be sent to every participant before race day.
- The start line, checkpoints, and finish line must be visited in the order provided.
- You must not use map apps.
- The web pages, unlocked by riddles given throughout the race, will detail the specific evidence needed to prove you have visited each checkpoint or completed a challenge.
- You must follow the invigilation requirements to complete the challenge.
- Any illegal activity will result in immediate disqualification (e.g., all train tickets must be purchased, and wild camping is prohibited).
- You can rely on kindness and call in favours for support in cities, accommodation and financial resources. You cannot be driven long distance between cities as a favour. The normal rules below still apply.
Teams
-
You must enter as a team of two.
-
Due to the nature of the event, only people over 16 years old can take part. 16 and 17 year olds must take part with a parent or guardian.
- Teams must stick together and complete all elements of the challenge as a pair.
- We must have contact details for both members of the team.
- This is a public transport-based event and not a car rally.
- Hire vehicles are not allowed.
- Hitchhiking is not allowed.
- Tickets/receipts must be kept as proof of travel to be considered for awards.
- To keep the challenge fair, public transport discount cards cannot be used.
Travel Within Cities
- Taxis and other forms of private hire transport are allowed, including rental bikes/e-bikes/e-scooters.
- Public transport is allowed.
- If you wish to bring personal transport such as a folding bike, skateboard, or rollerblades for travel within a city, this is allowed.
- Knowingly providing others with inaccurate information (or taking any action that seeks to disadvantage another racer) will be penalised and may lead to disqualification.
-
If it becomes apparent there is going to be a very close finish, the Race Director may distribute extra rules to handle the circumstance.
