Getting Started

How many entrants will there be?

add remove
The event is currently limited to 50 teams of two people.

    Who can take part?

    add remove
Due to the nature of the event, only people over 16 years old can take part.
16 and 17 year olds must take part with a parent or guardian.

Will I be able to use a smartphone?

    add remove

Yes, you'll be able to take your phone with you but you will be asked not to use map apps.

    Is travel insurance included?

    add remove

No, we recommend that you get travel insurance to cover potential risks, including medical emergencies, cancellations, or personal property loss.

    How much will I spend?

    add remove

You will be given a budget for the event to cover transport, food, and accommodation. If you need to go over budget using your own funds, you may, but there may be penalties.

    What luggage should I bring?

    add remove

Most racers opt to travel quite light and many benefit from using a backpack over any type of wheely suitcase. Navigating European cities quickly with wheeled luggage can be quite exhausting.

Can I get a refund for my registration fee?

    add remove

    Registration fees are non-refundable.
Your registration fee goes towards the cost of putting on the event.
If the event is delayed or cancelled due to any situation beyond our control, e.g., adverse weather conditions, we will try to arrange for the event to take place at a later date but cannot guarantee this will happen. No registration fees are refundable under these circumstances.
If RNRMC are unable to rearrange another date OR if RNRMC is able to rearrange a date and you are unable to attend, the below two options are available for you.
    1.    Gift your registration fee – we would be incredibly grateful if you would consider your registration fee as a donation to RNRMC.
    2.    Request a refund – if the above option does not work for you, we would offer the opportunity to request a part refund of your registration fee.

    Fundraising

    Do I have to fundraise?

    add remove

All participants are asked to fundraise a minimum of £1,500 each or £3,000 per team, which goes to support Naval families facing challenges such as life changing injuries, mental health issues or financial difficulties. When you sign up, you will automatically be set up with a Funraisin fundraising page.

Get in touch with the RNRMC Race  Across the UK team if you would like any fundraising materials or need any advice.

Your registration fee goes towards the cost of putting on the event.

    How will I raise £1,500?

    add remove

Our team is here to guide you every step of the way - with creative fundraising ideas and tips, and all the support you need to succeed.

    Can I fundraise offline too?

    add remove

Yes, you can fundraise offline as well as online. You can download a sponsorship form within the Resources tab of your fundraising dashboard.

To pay in your offline donations, you can either:
    •    Pay it directly onto your fundraising page yourself
    •    Pay money directly into our charity bank account (Give us a call or email and we can provide you the BACS details)
    •    Pay money in online via our website – www.rnrmc.org.uk/donate. Make sure you tell us in the comments what the funds are for.

What happens if I don’t reach my target?

    add remove
We know that committing to raise a specific amount can seem a bit daunting which is why we’re here to help every step of the way. If you are struggling with your fundraising or feel you won't be able to meet your fundraising pledge through donations from friends and family, then organising a local event such as a supermarket collection, cake sale or raffle, can all be great ways to give your fundraising a final boost.

We have lots of experience with fundraising, and can give you some great advice, tips and fundraising materials to help you smash your target. You can start by checking out our A-Z fundraising guide and our downloadable sports materials .

We’d hate for you to feel as though you haven’t got any support. There’s lots we can do to help and please remember that we wouldn’t ever ask you to pay any shortfall of your sponsorship or stop you from taking part in your event.

We're also happy to accept personal donations, should you wish to pay some yourself – but this is not, in any way, mandatory.

    The Challenge

Where does the race start and finish?

    add remove
A breakfast launch event to be held in an undisclosed location in Edinburgh on the morning of Tuesday 2nd September 2025.
A finishers party at Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth to be held in the evening of Friday 5th September 2025.
Friends and family are welcome to join at the finishers party.

How many checkpoints are there? How long will it take?

    add remove

There will be 3–5 checkpoints released at the start and along the route. The event is designed to be achievable within the 3.5-day cut-off.

    How remote are the checkpoints?

    add remove

The checkpoints will all be within built-up areas. Don't worry; we're not sending anyone off into the forest or up mountains.

How physically demanding is the race?

    add remove

The race is designed to be accessible to everyone. While there will be some walking involved, the level of physical effort is up to you—those aiming to compete may choose to pick up the pace, but a more relaxed approach is equally welcome.

Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity

    What does the RNRMC do?
