Stand Easy this VE day 80: honouring the past, supporting the present

On 8th May 1945, the United Kingdom erupted in celebration as Victory in Europe (VE) Day was declared, marking the end of the Second World War in Europe. After nearly six years of conflict, communities across the country came together in an outpouring of relief and gratitude, paying tribute to those who had fought and sacrificed for our freedom.

Street parties, parades, and gatherings filled towns and villages, with people decorating their homes, sharing food, and raising a glass in honour of the brave servicemen and women who had defended our nation. The spirit of unity and appreciation was felt in every corner of Britain, as millions took to the streets to celebrate peace while remembering those who had given everything for it. 

Now, 80 years on, VE Day remains a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by the men and women of the Armed Forces. While the war may be in the past, the need to support those who serve today remains just as important. Many of our veterans, along with their families, still face challenges - whether adjusting to civilian life, coping with physical or mental health struggles, or simply needing a helping hand.

As we mark this milestone anniversary, we have the opportunity to come together once again - not just to celebrate, but to give back.
