We are Racing Across the UK!!

On 2nd Sept 2025 Southsea-based friends and military spouses Charlotte and Georgie will be competing against 30 other teams in an epic challenge to “Race Across the UK” from Edinburgh to Dartmouth. They are raising funds for the amazing Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity. From physical and mental rehabilitation, financial support, bereavement services, children’s clubs and so much more, the RNRMC supports members of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, veterans and their families. 

The challenge will push the competitors out of their comfort zones: They need to get from Edinburgh to Dartmouth in 4 days. But they will have no phones, no cars.. just a map, a limited budget…and a bunch of creativity and determination!

A big thank you to Paul and Kate from the Queen’s Hotel in Southsea for allowing us to pop our collection buckets and posters around the hotel, garden and bar area. It’s great to involve local businesses and share this adventure with the community! If you spot one of our buckets please do scan the QR code or drop in any loose change. We are very grateful for all your support! 

Sunset/Sunrise Swim

On Friday 8th August an unusual celestial event happened whereby the moon rose and the sun set within minutes of each other. This rare combination, together with even rarer good Southsea weather provided the most wonderful setting for a sunrise/sunset swim. A lovely evening had by all! Thanks to all who came along, whether you swam or just enjoyed the ambiance. 

Wine Tasting!

We organised a wine tasting evening and it was so much fun! A huge thank you to local GP Jack, one of Charlotte’s colleagues, for taking us and our 24 guests through a wonderful worldwide wine journey. Medical professional by day, sommelier-extraordinaire by night! Another thank you must go to Jack’s wife Jo for helping us with the beautiful table-scraping and delicious canapés. Charlotte’s daughter Evie did a brilliant job of generating excitement in the raffle with an excellent strategy of sticking our QR codes all over herself! Thank you Evie! And once again thank you Charlotte for letting us host the event in your gorgeous garden. It really was a fantastic evening, and even better - we raised over £600!  

We're taking on Race Across the UK to support the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity!

This September, we’ll be racing from Edinburgh to Dartmouth - navigating only by public transport and our own two feet. No shortcuts, no map apps - just strategy, endurance, and determination!

But this challenge is about more than just the adventure. We're raising funds for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC), who provide crucial support to serving personnel, veterans, and their families. From hardship grants to mental health support, financial assistance to family welfare, RNRMC is there for those who serve or have served, when they need it most.

Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help make a real difference. Please support our challenge and help us raise vital funds for our Naval community!

An early start at the Southsea Car Boot sale!

With the car full to bursting with donations, as well as some essential snacks and hot chocolate, myself and my 11 year old daughter set off for the Sunday car boot sale on Southsea Common. It was an early start with the alarm going off at 0600 but the sun was shining, the sky was blue and the common was buzzing with cars and fellow early birds unpacking their stash. 

After the gates opened to the public, things really picked up as the morning progressed and the sun got higher in the sky. We were selling everything from baby clothes, books, bags, cups, glassware and even a candelabra, but the most popular items were definitely the puzzles. I’ve been assured by the donors that all the pieces were present… 

Despite a surprising amount of negotiation (/haggling!) going on, we made nearly £100 so that's another tidy sum to add to the pot!

Thanks to everyone who donated bits and pieces for the sale. 

Gin and Jigsaw!

On a beautiful June evening, Charlotte hosted the most fabulous evening of Gin and Jigsaw at her home in Southsea. The guests were treated to wonderful gin cocktails including Pink Gin Punch, Ginger Orange Sparkler and Elderflower Spritz, served aside delish canapes and snacks.

Puzzles were laid out at each table (thank you Trudy for lending us much of your stash!) and as the evening progressed, much chatting, nattering and puzzling was done!

Thank you to all who came along - What a brilliant way to spend an evening! And with each guest paying a suggested donation of £10, we made over £100 for the RNRMC! A successful evening all round!

Southsea Seafront Yoga

On a beautifully sunny Bank Holiday Saturday afternoon, Southsea Sprinter Charlotte’s mum Jackie, a professional instructor, led a gorgeous yoga session overlooking the Hotwalls beach and Portsmouth Harbour.  We spent the session stretching, bending and creaking ourselves into many poses none of us previously thought possible. But the hour flew past and by the end we all felt thoroughly relaxed and refreshed. And a surprise bottle of Prosecco smuggled up the hill by one of our guests rounded off a particularly sparkly Saturday by the sea! Thank you to all those who came along and made donations, and thank you in particular to Jackie for donating her time.
